Types of Genotype ( AA, AS, AC, SS )

There are four different types of genotypes in humans; AA, AS, AC, SS. Each of these genotypes refer to the hemoglobin gene constituents on the red blood cells. AC is rare whereas AS and AC are abnormal.

AA – A homozygous dominant individual with normal phenotype and no risk of abnormal offspring.

AS – A homozygous recessive individual with an abnormal phenotype and is guaranteed to pass the abnormal gene onto offspring

AC – A person with C trait, lacks enough hemoglobin C in his red blood cells to cause anemia.

SS – An individual with Hemoglobin SS carries the most common and most severe type of sickle cell disease. This is inherited from the hemoglobin S gene mutation from both parents of an offspring.

An AA individual marries an AS. This combination produces kids with AA and AS which is good. But sometimes if you’re not fortunate all the kids will be AS which is a limitation to their choice of partner.

An AS individual marries an AS. There is a 99% chance of having a child with SS, which brings about the sickle cell disease.

An AS and SS individual should not go into courtship that will bring about an offspring.

SS and SS individual must never go into marrying each other, because there is 100% chances of all the offspring the sickle cell disease.

Genotype Compatibility Solution – Cure for Sickle Cell Disease
