Harvard University Admission Eligibility & Documents Required

Although Harvard requires a high score for admission in any program, the eligibility requirements differ from depending on your course of study.

  • SAT or ACT (with or without writing)
  • Along with SAT scores, two SAT Subject Tests additionally required
  • Avoid sending scores from both Math Level-1 and Math Level-2, if submitting two subject tests
  • IELTS/TOEFL not required if English is the first language
  • Accepts both IELTS/TOEFL scores

Harvard Admission Deadline

Undergraduate programs are generally offered in the Spring Intake. Following are the deadlines for Undergraduate Application:

Round’ represents a distinct period in which you may apply, not a succession of steps for your application. You may apply in one round only, one time in an application year.

How to Apply for Harvard Undergraduate Courses

Undergraduateaspiring for Harvard admission can use three(3) options to choose from while applying to Harvard. You can either apply through the Common Application Portal, the Coalition Application Portal, or the Universal College Portal. After submitting your application form in any one of the application portals, a confirmation email from Harvard will be sent to you with its Applicant Portal link (not before mid-September). In this portal, you need to:

  • Contact information such as phone number, email address, and mailing address
  • Go through the personalized application checklist
  • Self-report test scores, if not submitted before
  • Check and confirm the scores submitted
  • Check the financial aid application status and make changes, if required
  • Change the application round (from Early Action to Regular Decision)
  • Submit additional documents and samples, as per course requirement

After the submission of your required documents, Harvard university will set up an applicant interview with its alumni. Although this is not a mandatory step as this is done based on slot availability, and even if no interview is scheduled, your candidacy will not be affected. Once the results are out, you can check the status of your application (accepted or not) on the Applicant Portal.

How to Apply for Harvard Postgraduate Courses

All Postgraduate aspirants need to apply through the Applicant Portal.

First you need to register on the specific school’s site and then log in to its Applicant Portal.

Note that each school has its own Applicant Portal. Do not register on the wrong school’s website.

After submitting your application form and relevant documents through the portal, you may get called for a personal interview. For MBA candidates, the interview is the next step after submitting the application form, which is usually conducted by a member of the MBA Admissions Board. Interviews may be held in person or through Skype, lasting for at least 30 minutes. A Post Interview Reflection essay/write-up needs to be submitted within 24 hours of interview completion. Details will be mailed to the student after the interview.

When to Check Back After Applying

Undergraduate programs are communicated by Mid-December (Early Action) and Late-March (Regular Decision).

Due to different deadlines for Postgraduate programs, their decision dates also vary.
