Introduction: “Everything rises and falls on leadership”. Says J. C. Maxwell. The key to transforming yourself from someone who understands leadership to a person who successfully leads in the real world is character. Your character qualities activate and empower your leadership abilities – or stand in the way of your success. If you can become the leader you ought to be on the inside, you will be able to become the leader you want to be on the outside. If you are able to do that, you’ll find out that, there’s nothing in this world you cannot do.

CHARACTER

“Leadership is the capacity and wiil to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence”. Bernard Mortgomery.

“Never “for the sake of peace and quiet” deny your own experience or persuasions” – Day Hammars Kjold. Your dealing with life circumstances is a reflection of your character. Crises only reveals character, it doesn’t mare it. Adversity is a crossroad that makes a person choose one of two parts: Character or Compromise. Alexander Solzhemitzym noted, “The meaning of earthly existing lies, not as we have growth used to thinking, in prospering, but in the development of the goal”.

Your character is your most important asset. G. Alan Bernard, President of Mid Park, Inc. stated, “The respect that leadership must have requires that one’s ethics be without question”. A leader not only stays above the line between right and wrong, he stays well clear of the “gray areas” What real character is – being bigger on the inside.

CHARISMA

Charisma is the quality that drew people to you and made them want to follow you. Charisma plainly stated is the ability to draw people to you.

“How can you have charisma? Be more concern about making others feel good about themselves than you are making them feel good about you”. – Dan Reiland.

“I have yet to find the man, however exalted his station, who did not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of approval than under a spirit of criticism” – Charles Schwab.

HOW TO DEVELOP CHARISMA

“Educators take something simple and make it complicated. Communicators take something complicated and make it simple” – John C. Maxwell.

The leader must possess the ability to communicate effectively, because your success depends greatly on it. People will not follow you if they don’t know what you want or where you are going.

HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR

  1. Be Simple In Your Message

How you say it is much more important than what you say. The key to effective communication is simplicity. Don’t impress people with big words. Until you are simple, you cannot connect with people. Always be clear in your communication.

  • Understand The People Your Communicating To

Focus on the people you are communicating to. Unless you know the audience you are communicating to, you cant be effective.

Ask yourself these questions: Who is my audience? What are their questions? How much time do I have? Great communicators believe in people.

  • Be Credible to Your Audience

Always show the truth to your audience. Credibility is the backbone of great communication. You must believe in what you say.

Field Marshal Ferdinard Foch observed, “The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul or fire”. Also live what you say, credibility – leads to conviction in action.

  • Seek A Response

The goal of communication is action. Give them something to field, something to remember and something to do. Danto Manquez Jr. said, “A leader must get things done through others, therefore the leader must have the ability to inspire and motivate, guide and direct and listen”
